Below is the love story of Melissa & John
How did you meet? How did you start dating?
We met on a blind date, setup by a mutual couple – Melissa worked with the husband and John taught with the wife. The husband wanted to give John Melissa’s number right away, but his wife was protective and wasn’t so sure. We are so glad she relented! We met at Starbucks, both figuring it was a safe place to meet, since it was a blind date, in case it didn’t go well. But it did go well, we sat talking for hours, it was love at first sight and we have been inseparable ever since! It was in our first conversation we realized we actually went to high school together and graduated in the same class.
What was the most romantic thing she did / he did?
The most romantic thing Melissa ever did was give me my watch as a wedding gift set to the time we were getting married at with a message attached. / The most romantic thing John ever did was make me a slide show of pictures from our relationship and a message at the end about his excitement for our upcoming wedding and our adventures to come!
How did he propose? Was he romantic?
John proposed on our way home from a weekend at my family cabin in Radium, BC – he pulled over into one of the lookout points over the Columbia Valley. We took some pictures and walked around for a bit, then went back to the car and as I had turned to put our dog in the backseat, I turned around and John was kneeling at my door! He totally caught me by surprise and I was bubbling with excitement. We had a bit of time to keep our engagement to ourselves as there was no cell reception on the highway. Looking back at the pictures we took, I can see the ring box in John’s pocket, but didn’t even notice at the time!
What were the top three memorable moments on your wedding day?
1 Seeing my wife walking towards me and seeing her in her dress for the first time.
2 Seeing the venue completely decorated and filled with people as Melissa and I walked into the room as music played with everyone cheering.
3 Walking to our hotel that night in our wedding clothes.
1 Holding onto my Dad’s hand walking into the church and making the turn to see John waiting for me
2 Our bridal party stuffing me, my dress and veil into the limo multiple times
3 Looking out from the head table to the reception and seeing our family and friends laughing, celebrating and enjoying – exactly what John and I wanted in sharing our day with them.
Where are you going for your honeymoon?
Hawaii! Waikiki and later Kanapalli and Wailea on Maui
Any special reason for going there?
We had just finished a hectic couple of years; the planning of the wedding for Melissa and John finishing his Masters program, so we wanted to simply relax on a beach somewhere.
What are the best wedding advice that you want to share with other couples?
It’s okay to get upset and angry sometimes in the planning process, just be ready to have to let it go and find a compromise. All the logistics and details that go into a wedding really do fall into place!
